Fractional Leadership · Keel

Executive marketing leadership, one to two days a month.

Some teams need a senior leader in the room, just not every day. Keel gives you executive marketing leadership one to two days a month, steady and mostly out of sight, so your work holds its course whatever the season brings.

One to two days a month, weighted toward what each month needs, plus an optional executive check-in
Role
Your fractional CMO: strategy, leadership and accountability
For
Small and mid-sized businesses and charities
Investment
$2,000 a month for charities, $3,000 a month for businesses

Who this is for

You’re bringing in a fractional CMO, not an extra pair of hands. Keel is executive leadership: the strategy, the direction, and the people who carry the work. It fits small and mid-sized teams, businesses and charities alike, in one of three places.

No one is leading your marketing yet.

We set the direction, coordinate the people and partners doing the work, and keep the plan honest. The making itself stays with your team or vendors. If no one is there to do it yet, we’ll sort that out together before we begin.

You have a marketer and want a second set of eyes.

We gut-check the work, keep timelines on track, and give you clear, unbiased reporting on what’s working.

You have rising talent.

We mentor and develop junior staff so they grow into the role you need them in.

How a month works

One to two days of executive leadership, used where it will do the most good, with a clear record of where the time went. Every hour you pay for is a working hour.

  1. 01

One to two days of executive time

Used where it will do the most good: a launch, a planning push, a tough decision. Team meetings and coaching happen within this time.

  2. 02

    An executive check-in

A 45-minute monthly conversation with the executive who leads this work, if they’d like one, to review progress and make decisions.

  3. 03

    Support between sessions

By email or text, with replies within one business day. Working requests count toward your monthly time; quick notes and check-ins don’t.

  4. 04

    A monthly report

Where the time went, what moved, and what’s next.

  5. 05

    A shared picture

A tracker everyone can see, plus a 90-day plan we refresh each quarter.

What this isn’t

Hands-on production.

We don’t create content, run your ads or manage your social channels. We lead the people who do, and the strategy behind their work.

Major gift fundraising.

We’ll strategize, write, prospect and guide your grant work, while the donor relationships stay with your people, where they belong.

A shortcut to our contacts.

We build relationships on trust, and we never sell those out.

How we work

Remotely, with time scheduled flexibly across the month. Meetings are booked at times that work for both of us.

Availability

Keel is offered to a limited number of organizations at a time. We encourage you to reach out early to reserve a place.

Why Keel?

A keel is the part of a boat nobody sees. It sits below the waterline, keeps everything upright, and stops the boat from drifting sideways when the wind picks up. Nobody admires a keel from the dock, but try sailing without one.

That’s the job here: steady, mostly out of sight, and a big part of why your work holds its course. No sailing experience required.

Let’s talk it through.

It starts with a conversation about what you’re working toward and who it serves. We choose the work we take on with care, and we hope you’ll do the same with us. If it’s a fit, we start with three months together, then continue month to month.
